Diet Planning - Choosing a molasses free ration from Dengie

Whilst Dengie have always produced some products that are molasses free, the launch of Dengie Alfa-A and Hi-Fi Molasses Free means that the range is now even more extensive.

Whilst this is great news as it means more choice and diet solutions for many more horses and ponies, we do appreciate that more choice can make choosing a ration even more confusing. Here is a quick guide to the Dengie feeds that are completely molasses free.

Alfa-A OilAlfa-A Oil – Dengie’s highest calorie fibre feed for hard working horses and ponies or those that need to gain weight

Alfa-A Oil combines pure alfalfa with a soya oil coating and added vitamin E. With 12.5MJ/kg of digestible energy, Alfa-A Oil has an energy or ‘calorie’ level comparable to a Conditioning or Competition Mix/Cube, but without the sugar and starch. Dengie Alfa-A Oil is suitable for horses in hard work or for horses and ponies at lower levels of work that need to gain weight.

Alfa-A Molasses FreeNEW Alfa-A Molasses Free - for horses and ponies working up to a moderate level or those in lower levels of work that struggle to maintain weight

Alfa-A Molasses Free combines chopped alfalfa, soya oil, alfalfa pellets and the herbs mint and fenugreek. Alfa-A Molasses Free provides 11.5MJ/kg of digestible energy and is suitable for working horses and ponies or those in lower levels of work that struggle to maintain condition. Alfa-A Molasses Free is also free from preservatives.

Alfa-BeetAlfa-Beet – a highly digestible source of fibre for improved condition, to aid hydration and for enhanced palatability

Alfa-Beet combines alfalfa and unmolassed sugar beet and must be fed soaked. Alfa-Beet has a convenient 2 hour cold soak or 15 minute hot soak time. Alfa-Beet may be fed alongside any Dengie feed to provide an additional highly digestible fibre source for condition without the fizz, or to aid hydration and to enhance palatability. Alfa-Beet is free from preservatives and binders.

Alfa-A PelletsAlfalfa Pellets – pure pelletd alfalfa for horses with limited fibre appetites, outdoor feeding and use in snack balls

Alfalfa Pellets are pure pelleted alfalfa with nothing else added. Alfalfa Pellets may be fed dry or soaked to a mash and can be fed alone or in combination with another Dengie Fibre Feed. As Alfalfa Pellets are much more concentrated they are particularly useful for horses and ponies with limited fibre appetites. A large horse may have up to 3kg of alfalfa based feeds per day, which in chop form would be equivalent to 7.5 large round scoops whereas in pellet form this is only approximately 2 scoops. Alfalfa Pellets are also free from preservatives and binders.

Hi-Fi Molasses FreeNEW Hi-Fi Molasses Free – For horses and ponies at rest or in light work that require a low sugar and starch diet

Hi-Fi Molasses Free combines chopped alfalfa, oat straw, soya oil, alfalfa pellets, straw pellets and the herbs mint and fenugreek. Hi-Fi Molasses Free provides 8.5MJ/kg of digestible energy and is suitable for horses and ponies at rest or in light work as well as those working harder but maintain condition with ease. Hi-Fi Molasses Free is also free from preservatives and binders.

Dengie Balancers & Natural Vitality Vits & Mins Supplements

Although alfalfa, which can be found in all the unmolassed Dengie products, is an excellent source of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals the Dengie unmolassed products are straight feeds. We would therefore recommend a broad-spectrum of vitamins and minerals is fed either in the form of a Vits & Mins supplement from the Natural Vitality range or a Dengie Balancer which are all molasses free.
