Horse of the Quarter - Kizzy
Kizzy before
Kizzy after
Kizzy is a 23 year-old, 12hh pony owned by Sandra and is just one of many horses and ponies that trialled the Dengie Molasses Free feeds prior to launch.
Kizzy has always been fed a Dengie diet, but after several months box rest due to laminitis Kizzy had gone off of her usual ration which made it difficult for Sandra to feed her supplements and medication. Luckily for Sandra and Kizzy, Dengie Hi-Fi Molasses Free was ready for trial and Kizzy absolutely loved it! Sandra calls the feed 'Kizzy’s curry’ as after eating the Hi-Fi Molasses Free Kizzy has curry breath due to the Fenugreek.
Kizzy’s time on box rest, which in total equated to over 6 months, gave Sandra the ideal opportunity to get Kizzy to lose some weight. Although Kizzy had always worn a grazing muzzle at grass and had never been unnecessarily overfed she was still carrying excess bodyweight which Sandra was really keen to tackle.
After some advice from Dengie and lots of hard work from Sandra, including feeding smaller amounts of hay little and often and triple netting the hay to make it last longer, Kizzy is now in much better shape. Kizzy is still wearing her imprint shoes at the moment for some extra support, but is now allowed out for 20 minutes grazing in an electric fenced area within her old paddock.
The old adage 'the grass is always greener on the other side’ certainly applies to Kizzy’s cheeky pony way of thinking and she kept jumping the fence which was almost as big as she was! Sandra has now taken down the fence and gone back to using Kizzy’s grazing muzzle for 20 minutes through fear of Kizzy causing further damage to her feet through jumping. It just goes to show that Kizzy must be feeling a lot more comfortable and she certainly looks much improved as the picture shows.
