Spring 2009
Well we've had floods followed by snow and then more floods here this winter so it is great that spring has finally arrived! I was lucky enough to take a couple of holiday days around the 16th March when temperatures reached a very pleasant 16ºC at home!
As I write I can hear several people mowing their lawns in the gardens that surround us, which can only mean that the grass is growing in earnest. Whilst this is great news for many of us who have fields closely resembling a 'quagmire', for others it is bad news especially for owners with laminitis at the forefront of their mind. Don't forget that the Dengie website contains a wealth of information under the 'Feed Advice' section and now may be just the time to refresh your memory with a little bit of study time.
Sunshine after a long dull winter certainly does help to lift the spirits and not just our own with more than a few horses feeling a little bit 'fresh' at this time of year. With this in mind I give our top tips for managing the fizz and while feeding is not always to blame and cannot always resolve the problem, paying careful attention to your horse’s feeding regime can certainly help. Senior Nutritionist Katie Williams also takes a 'look behind the label' to help demystify some of the ingredients that you may find in your horse's feed.
For our younger members we also have some exciting news with the launch of the Dengie Academy this month. We've joined forces with Pony Magazine to offer one lucky winner the chance to see what it's like to be Head Nutritionist for the day as well as receiving a year's supply of Dengie horse feeds. Take a look at our news page for further information.
