Focus on Burghley Horse Trials and Chance to Win Membership Ticket

The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials has been running since 1961, when the Marquess of Exeter on hearing that the autumn three-day event at Harewood could no longer be held, invited the British Horse Society to transfer the event to his estate. Since then the event has never looked back with a record 10 championships held at the event, including the first ever World Championships in 1966.

Only one horse has won the event twice and that was Priceless, ridden by Virginia Holgate (now Elliott) - who is also the most successful rider to compete at Burghley winning a total of 5 times in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1989.

As well as the main event, there are other horsey activities going on at Burghley over the 4 day event, including a dressage display and even a donkey driving display! The Burghley Lodden Young Event Horse Series final is held at the event on the Friday and is a great class to watch and spot the future stars of the eventing world. Often the top riders can be seen working their young horses for this final which sees them have to complete a dressage test, followed by a jumping test and then a confirmation and type review. The first 10 horses who get through these 3 stages then go on to complete the 'suitability and potential' section and the winner is the one with the most marks from each section. There are two classes in the final - one for 4 year old horses and one for 5 year old horses. Dengie's sponsored rider, Mike Jackson has often had some of his young horses in this prestigious final.

As a special gift to one of our Dengie Club members, Dengie will be giving away a pair of membership tickets for the event. The tickets are worth £135 and cover two people on all four days of the event for;

  • 2 four day admission tickets
  • 1 four day car pass for forward parking
