Pony Racing Instruction Day
Officially introduced in 2004, Pony Racing is now a well established and popular activity. Pony Racing was introduced to promote the development of British jockeys and allows 9-15 year olds to experience the thrill of being a jockey and the electric atmosphere of race day.
Regulated by the Pony Racing Authority, Pony Racing has grown in popularity year on year and in 2008 there were 22 racecourses staging pony races. Pony Racing is also a Pony Club discipline.
Following the success of last year’s Pony Racing Instruction Day which included workshops and tutorials with John Francombe, Peter Scudamore, Marcus Armytage, Steve Smith-Eccles, Richard Killoran and Robert Thornton the Pony Club are set to run this event again on Tuesday 17th February at Hartpury College Gloucestershire.
Senior Nutritionist Katie Williams will be on hand again this year to offer advice. Katie will be giving a talk on ‘Feeding Ponies for Racing’ that also includes the importance of fibre and a demonstration with Dengie’s life size horse’s digestive tract.
