Horse of the Quarter - Gus
Gus is a 13hh, forest bred New Forest Pony owned by Tamsyn Lafferty and ridden by Hannah Wood. Tamsyn describes Gus as being 'tricky to feed' as he is generally a very good doer, but due to a previous history of gastric ulcers Tamsyn likes to keep him eating for as long as possible.
Gus is competed in affiliated Working Hunter Pony and Mountain and Moorland Working Hunter Pony classes so Tamsyn needed to find a balance between Gus having enough energy for work, without the use of traditional cereal based concentrates, whilst managing his bodyweight and fibre intake as well.
Gus lives out and following advice from the Dengie Feedline is fed a combination of Dengie Alfa-A Lite and Alfa-A Balancer, which Tamsyn finds gives him everything he needs as a competition pony including plenty of energy for the job in hand. Tamsyn also gives Gus a bucket of Dengie Hi-Fi Lite as a partial hay replacer to further top up his fibre intake and to keep him chewing!
