Horse of the Quarter - Boo Boo
Boo Boo is a 16hh, 9 year-old gelding owned by Alicia Knight. Boo Boo is a very special horse as not only does Alicia have lots of fun with him, but she also shares him with others as his real job is as a therapy horse. Alicia is a psychologist and specialises in working with anxiety and trauma work. The therapy work with Boo Boo involves grooming and care elements and some in-hand work. Alicia works mainly with adolescents but also with younger children and adults.
Alicia has owned Boo Boo since he was 4 ½ years-old and when she first got him he was in generally poor condition. After carrying out some feeding research and discovering the benefits of a high fibre diet Alicia switched Boo Boo to diet based on Dengie Hi-Fi Lite combined with a feed balancer and sugar beet which Boo Boo continued to do well on.
Over the winter months Alicia always introduces an oil based feed to Boo Boo’s ration to help maintain his bodyweight and to keep his coat in good condition. This winter Alicia attended an Open Day in November at Border Farm Supplies in Duns and spoke with Area Sales Manager Gillian Neill who suggested Alicia try New Dengie Hi-Fi Molasses Free.
Alicia e-mailed in December and said “just wanted to give you some feedback, have now switched my horse onto the Molasses Free and he is looking terrific on it. His coat is in really good nick and he’s managing to hold weight in spite of the horrid weather!!! I’m really impressed with it as a feed and he loves it.”
Boo Boo is currently fed 41/2 scoops of Hi-Fi Molasses Free per day together with his sugar beet, balancer and ad lib hay.
