Alfalfa; not only good for horses!

Heart disease not only affects humans, but is a leading killer amongst male zoo gorillas. Across 5 American Zoos, gorillas have been weaned off of their nutritionally balanced, but calorie and starch dense 'biscuits' and instead are being fed a trial diet meant to mimic a gorilla's wild diet and one which has proved heart healthy in humans as well. Amongst their new trial diet the gorilla's are munching through vast quantities of fibre rich greens such as dandelion, lettuce and alfalfa hay! So far the diet seems to be going well with gorilla's Bebac and Mokolo of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo having lost 65lbs each.
