An Historic Breed with a Bright Future

10th December 2008

Dengie are proud to be supporting the Caspian Breed Society in 2009 by helping to promote the wonderful attributes of this ancient breed. The Caspian horse is a rare breed that stands on average at 11.2hh. Originating from Iran and re-discovered by Louise Firouz in 1965, the Caspian is thought to be a predecessor of modern oriental breeds such as the Arab. The Caspian excels in a range of disciplines and its very docile temperament makes it an ideal children’s pony.

Dengie feeds are popular amongst Caspian owners especially at Henden and Lanhill, the main UK Caspian stud, where the flexibility of a fibre based ration suits their range of sixty assorted stallions, mares and youngstock. Holly Dale, who was introduced to Caspians by Fleur Scot when they were studying together at the Royal Veterinary College, approached Dengie for support due to her belief in a fibre based diet being ideal for the Caspian breed. The Caspian Breed Society is primarily concerned with preserving rare bloodlines and producing breeding stock to continue the breed. Representing the younger generation of the Caspian Breed Society, Holly and Fleur feel that it is not only their job to help preserve this wonderful breed but to highlight their versatility and bring them firmly into the public eye. This includes attending many shows throughout the year and most recently Henden Troy, now a promising stallion for next year, featured in the Breeds Spotlight at Your Horse Live and has even been filmed for a documentary about this rare breed.
