Badminton Diary 2009 with Ginnie Turnbull and Instant Reaction
23rd April 2009
Ginnie has been married to Will for 13 years and together they have a son Jack who will be one in May. Ginnie and Will own a breaking and training yard in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire. Ginnie has been riding all her life coming through the ranks of the Pony Club and has been eventing for 20 years. Ginnie has produced many horses to CCI*** level but this will be her first attempt at CCI****.
Ginnie gains enormous pleasure from getting the best out of all of her rides, whatever their ability, and plans their schedules very carefully with meticulous attention to preparations in all disciplines as well as feeding, stamina and fitness. Ginnie tries to fully understand how each horse ticks and at any time Ginnie and Will have about 25 horses at the yard of which 14 are eventing. Will ‘breaks’ them and does the early dangerous work and Ginnie brings them on once they are safe!! Ginnie says “I am very fortunate to have super and loyal owners, all of whom event their horses for fun and have stayed with me through pregnancy and are truly part of my family.”
Ginnie describes Instant Reaction (Dan) is a bit of a nightmare. Having been with Ginnie and Will since he was broken in, Ginnie says that “Instant Reaction is most definitely how shall we put it, a challenge!” He has competed at three 3 star CCI's, placed at Blenheim in the top 30 twice and was 5th at Blair CCI*** last year. Ginnie describes that his dressage is a challenge and due to this they have had to be very careful with what they feed him. He gets very stressed and loses weight very quickly when competing.
Ginnie and Will are currently feeding Instant Reaction Dengie Alfa-A Oil and a weight gain concentrate. Upon the suggestion of a Dengie nutritionist they have also recently introduced Natural Vitality Digestive Health Plus which has proved very successful. Instant Reaction is now holding condition and everyone is looking ahead to Badminton.
We would all like to wish Ginnie and Instant Reaction good luck and will keep you updated with their progress here over the coming weeks.
