Bow House Equestrian Centre

23/02/10

At last we have managed to leave the yard, after 7 weeks with no shows. Luckily the last show before the big freeze was at The Hartpury spectacular and Bow House Rubis went well collecting a 5th and a 6th, Luckily for us Claire the Dengie nutritionist was there, and as we had put the horse away, she went in on foot and collected the prize. Thank you Claire. We had been watching the forecast and stopped feeding them hard feed as we were also off to Olypmia to watch the puissance, it was fantastic, and we returned home to snow and ice and frozen arenas, so the horse walker worked over time as we had 22 horses in work.

Two of the oldies Rosalind and Little Rupert hasn't got many teeth left, so last winter we managed to work out a diet that worked for them as they cant chew hay or chaff. They have Alfa-Beet and Dengie Natural Vitality Senior vits and mins soaked into a sludge, during the cold weather it was hard work as the feed kept freezing.

We have done two shows and the horses are still a little sharp so we feel that another week of work then they can get back to having feeds and not just haylage. We normaly feed most of the horses, Alfa A Lite and soya oil, with Naked Oats if they need more instant energy.

Over the next month we have a lot of shows, and have some youngsters to get out to their first parties so that should be fun.
