February 2011

It’s now only a few weeks to go until the start of the Eventing season and we are ready and raring to go!

I have now moved into my new yard which is brilliant as I am able to create and implement a regime to suit each horse’s individual requirements. It is super to have enough grazing that the horses can go out every day and it has certainly helped them to unwind and stay relaxed in their work. It has been hard work getting the yard up and running as well as trying to fit in dentistry to pay for it all! We currently have 4 horses in work and look to fill 2 more stables soon. Next week we have someone starting who will help with them in the afternoons which will really take the pressure off and allow me to concentrate on riding, dentistry and running the yard. Having regular help will be an exciting and novel experience for me and will hopefully result in me being more productive. The horses settled in at the new yard!Charlie and Viking schooling

The winter months have been rather frustrating as not only were we hampered by the snow but also the appointment for the operation on my jaw was changed countless times finally being done on the 12th January. At least it’s all done now until the next stage in June. Unfortunately this did disrupt the horses’ preparation as I initially planned to start their work in November but finally started working properly after the snow thawed in December. Being turned out on a hill has really helped their fitness. They are doing well and will be ready for their first event at Aldon. They both are going brilliantly at home and will do some dressage, jumping and cross country schooling in the next few weeks. I am particularly pleased with Billy (Wardento) who has come into work feeling stronger and more mature than ever before.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jenny Jackson for her support which has helped me get the horses to where they are today. Despite no longer having a share in Billy or Viking I continue to produce horses for her and she remains a valued supporter. With help I now own Billy and Viking which is a relief to continue to have them both to compete after putting all the work in over the last few years, particularly as I feel they are both coming into their prime and hopefully have 4 star potential in the next couple of years.
Its nice to start the 2011 season with the horses looking and feeling great, which is largely down to the support and feeding from Dengie. I hope this year we can realise my hopes and expectations and the horses can continue on track to be competitive at the highest level.
