Ginnie's Diary
1st September 2009
July & August
Dan seems to be on track for his big event in September. Following 3 easy open intermediate runs we have taken him to Hartpury CIC*** for a proper "burn up". The fitness work has really come on through his one day runs and we have increased his feed now to his Burghley rations including Alfa Oil and his digestive supplement which seems to have an incredible effect on his weight (preventing his normal acute loss of weight under stress) and coat condition. He looks great!
Generally on a build up to a big three day we organise his week to include two hacks up steep hills, 3 flat work schooling and/or 2 jumping sessions. Dan canters every four days depending on his Eventing schedule and we try to give him a day off occasionally!!
We also have a very exciting (in more ways than one) young 4 year old competing at Burghley which could be entertaining. He has been busy trying to be a "grown up" and has really filled out on his Alfa-A and general low energy diet.
The other youngsters have been learning their trade at the lower levels and scaring the locals at low key competitions! Never a dull moment!
We try to hack the horses either around the farm or on the roads if sensible to keep them happy and mix up their education. Some of the horses are out in the field at night, some in depending on the weather and their general disposition! We have some really exciting horses about at the moment.
Keep your fingers crossed for not too much humiliation at Burghley!
