Ludlow Endurance Ride 2011
14th July 2011
Endurance GB’s annual Ludlow ride, supported this year by Dengie, attracted 160 entries over the two days, with riding distances from 30km to 100km .
The ride had something for everyone, with classes from 30km, supported by many local riders who took part in the pleasure ride, to the more competitive international riders who competed in the longer distances, including the 100km class.
This year, the route left the racecourse and headed North through Nortoncamp, and on through to Culmington, before wending its way up onto Wenlock Edge via Diddlebury Common. The beautiful Wilderhope Manor and Farm provided an idyllic setting for the longer-distance riders to go through a vet gate, before continuing over National Trust land, almost to Much Wenlock, before turning to start on their return.
The 100km class was won by Janice Cockley-Adams riding Roxane Du Bout Monde, and the 80km, for the second consecutive year, by Ken Mapp riding C.A.A Labib.
This year, the ride had additional trophies for the riders to compete. The Diddlebury Dash, for riders who were competing both days in the 40km class on the same horse, was won by Camilla Mascall riding Stagborough Eliza. Also, the Mytton Way Team Challenge for four riders entering any of the classes over the two days (three of which had to successfully complete their ride). The competition not only brought riders together from different areas to compete as a team, but prompted great creativity when it came to deciding the names of the teams! The winning team was The Cheshire Babes, hotly pursued in second place by Barefoot and Bootyfull.
Every competitor received a Dengie Goody Bucket, samples and Dengie feed vouchers and the winners also received additional Dengie feed vouchers. The winning team were presented with individual framed photographs donated by Saunders Photography.
