Overweight case study from The Blue Cross

17th August 2011

Vashti is a 12hh, 11 year old native mare. She originally came to The Blue Cross for welfare reasons and once ready was found a suitable loan home. Vashti has since returned to the Burford adoption centre and unfortunately came back to us needing to lose a good deal of weight. We have now put her on to a weight loss programme and as part of her diet she has been given Barley Straw, soaked hay and is also on Dengie Hi-Fi Good Doer and Hi-Fi Lite. Vashti still has a little way to go and will remain at the centre until she has reached her ideal weight. We are really pleased with the results of Vashti's weight loss and her coat is in fantastic condition.

Vashti will eventually be looking for a home as a non ridden companion. Unfortunately she has never made a suitable child's riding pony and is just that bit too small for a small lightweight adult to ride. She does however make a great companion and as soon as she has lost the weight we will be looking for the perfect home for her.
