Paddy takes a tumble

I am writing this blog from my hospital bed where I have spent the last three weeks after a fall at home on the school which left me with a bleed on the brain.

I am undergoing Physio daily to correct my balance and am totally banned from riding or undergoing anything which could result in a knock to the head for another two or three months - this will include riding, but not quiet work around the stables such as lunging, feeding, general stable duties. Most definately it would include cooking, housework, ironing and washing!!!!!!!!

The fall I do not recall, but have been told it was fairly innocent - the youngster I was riding tripped whilst turning a corner and I spilled off the side whilst he was fumbling around trying to get his balance. I was knocked out and the emergency services called - this was a particularly efficient service which involved a helicopter and a very efficient and knowledgeable scottish doctor and his efficient helpers. We live in the back of beyond so the fact this was all seen to in 30 mins was incredible and I will be deeply inbebted to them for years to come. I spent 3 deays in and out of a coma in James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough and my first memories were that I was at Hexham HorseTrials where I had spent the weekend. Eventually I came to terms with where I was and what had happened.

Sharon Roach my friend who works for Millbry Hill our feed merchants and saddlery store has kindly taken over looking after my yard with my mum. The horses are on a basic diet of plenty of Hi-Fi and Alfa-Beet, a few soaked whole oats and rationed haylage. They spend all day out at grass, and go on the walker once a day. The odd horse gets excercised, my sister takes Stanley out and Lucy rides her pony 3 times a week.
A couple of horses, Sharons' and a young horse of mine live out at night so this leaves less horses to deal with daily.

My family and friends have been so supportive and I cannot thank them enough.
