Summer feeding and hay shortage

4th July 2011

As the dry weather in the South East continues and hay prices all over the country rise, your horse’s daily fibre rations are becoming more expensive and difficult to secure. With prices frequently reported at £6 for a small bale of hay, perhaps it’s time to look at other ways of providing a quality fibre diet for your horse. Dengie Horse Feeds has just the answer.

For horses in work and competing, Alfa A Lite is an excellent partial hay replacement. This highly palatable feed has spearmint oil included to tempt fussy feeders and with approximately 9 MJ/kg of energy, Alfa A Lite provides a similar energy level per kilogram as a Horse & Pony or High Fibre Cube, but in a chopped fibre form that encourages much more chew time. As it is approved by The Laminitis Trust, Alfa A Lite can even be fed to those susceptible to weight gain and prone to laminitis.

For horses in lighter work or at rest, Hi-Fi Lite is a short chop feed that takes as long to chew as the equivalent weight of hay or haylage helping to keep horses occupied and satisfied. For horses on restricted grazing, Hi-Fi Lite is ideal as it delivers sufficient fibre to maintain gut function but it contains less sugar than average hay. It can be fed as a complete hay replacer and is also approved by The Laminitis Trust.

Both of these feeds can be fed alongside Dengie Natural Vitality Leisure Vits & Mins or Dengie Natural Vitality Performance Vits & Mins, to ensure your horse has a complete and balanced diet with all the nutrients that may be missing from this summer’s forage and grazing.
