Sympathetic Feeding - for health and performance
16th January 2008
If there is one thing that owning horses teaches us it's that rarely is everything perfect! This is never more apparent than during the winter months when exercising our horses can be difficult and they spend long periods of time in the stable. Having an understanding of how your horse has evolved to eat and feeding him accordingly can help you and him to get through the dark months with your sanity intact!
Fibres such as alfalfa provide as much energy as a cool mix or cube per KG fed, but unlike cereal based feeds alfalfa works with your horse's digestive system to release the energy slowly and thus helps avoid fizzy behaviour. Plus, because alfalfa and fibre takes longer to chew it helps to keep your horse occupied whilst he is confined to barracks. Click here to read more on how feeding your horse sympathetically can help you to keep him or her healthy, happy and working this winter!
