3rd April 2007
A very successful 11th Dengie Pony Club Winter League and Open Show Jumping Championships took place on Saturday (31st March) at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell with talented youngsters from all over the United Kingdom taking part.
A initial entry of over 4,500 Pony Club members competing in the preliminary rounds was whittled down to 700 jumping at Area competitions. From these, a total of 79 gifted combinations started in Saturday's final, with 20 getting through to the jump off. A well deserved victory went to Emily Brady (aged 16) and her pony Flicka, members of the Essex Hunt North Branch, one of three riders to jump double clear rounds.
The Dengie Open show Jumping Championships were also contested, for only their second year. This class is open to members up to the age of 25, and the winner was 19-year-old Emma Tideswell and Orleine, from the Meynell Hunt.
Emma Pelly, Marketing Manager of Dengie, the UK's leading grower and producer of fibre feed for horses said: "Dengie is delighted to continue to support this excellent league which once again has proven to be packed with talented riders and horses, whilst still being accessible to the novice riders and ponies".
Chief Executive of The Pony Club, Judy Edwards, agreed: "It has been an excellent competition throughout and the skill and dedication of those who managed to get through to the finals has really paid off. We are most grateful to Dengie for their continued support and friendship."
