Testimonial: EPSM

In October 2008 Charlotte Dreghorn e-mailed the Dengie Feedline to tell us about her horse Goliathe, aka Golly. After using Dengie Alfa-A Oil for just over a month, Charlotte couldn’t believe the difference it had made.

When Charlotte purchased Golly earlier this year she described him as being neglected with terrible rain scold and no spirit. In an effort to promote weight gain Charlotte gradually introduced a ration based on sugar beet, chaff, Barley Rings and oats but even after quite some time it didn’t seem to be having the desired effect. Charlotte was also having additional problems with Golly as he was finding it difficult to lift his legs for the farrier. Six months later and after a considerable amount of investigation Charlotte discovered that Golly had Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (EPSM). Golly Before the Introduction of Alfa-A Oil

Whilst searching the internet for further information and advice regarding EPSM, Charlotte read the article Feeding Horses with ERS and Muscle Related Problems on the Dengie website. After reading this and the information about the Dengie product range Charlotte decided to gradually start Golly on a ration of Dengie Alfa-A Oil and unmolassed sugar beet pulp alongside a vitamin E and selenium supplement. This combination was recommended to help Golly gain weight whilst also being suitable for horses with EPSM.

After just a few weeks on Alfa-A Oil Golly started to gain weight and Charlotte also noticed a huge improvement in his coat condition. Probably the change that was most pleasing to Charlotte though was that Golly developed a much brighter personality as he started to feel better. As a result of Golly’s transformation Charlotte has now introduced Alfa-A Oil to her other horses’ rations too. Golly a few weeks after the introduction of Alfa-A Oil
