Farrier Testimonial

Farrier Mike Nuttall was so impressed with the results from supplementing one of his clients Thoroughbred horse’s with Natural Vitality Coat & Hoof that he wrote in to share his story with us, as well as arranging a farrier nutrition training evening on the importance of nutrition on hoof quality!

Mike’s Story

This horse was a farrier’s worst nightmare! As we all know TBs come with a reputation of having bad feet- well these were horrendously bad, they were cracked and split on the hoof wall to nail to. This was one of those where you wonder if I ever get them on safe, how long they are going to stay there for. Oh and the owner Susie Hill loves to hunt as well.

After talking to Katie Jewell, Dengie’s Area Sales Manager for the South East, we decided to try this horse on Dengie Natural Vitality Coat and Hoof supplement as this would be the perfect test case for me to observe. I managed to get a set of shoes on the best I could with what we had, and Susie started to feed Coat and Hoof on the 1st of December 2008 with the advice and guidance of Katie.

Six weeks later and I telephoned Susie to say that her horse was due for re-shoeing and asked how they looked. Absolutely great came the reply, no risen clenches and they look brilliant so don’t worry, book me in for a couple of weeks time.

I went to shoe Susie’s horse 8 weeks after Coat & Hoof was introduced. I could not believe my eyes, not only did we have 4 shoes on and no risen clenches, but the condition of the hooves had changed so much. The hooves didn’t look dry, the cracking and splitting had virtually gone and when I removed the shoe and trimmed the foot I removed approximately 7mm of new growth - on a TB unbelievable. I re-shod Susie’s horse and returned 8 weeks later. This time I removed 7mm off the hind feet and a massive 10mm off the front hooves and a consistent 5mm off wall thickness.

This for me I found mind blowing. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I probably would have struggled to believe it was possible as it was such a transformation in such a short time. Before speaking to Katie and using her expertise I knew I was faced potentially with a constant battle to keep shoes on this TB. By taking Katie’s advice it has changed this animal’s well being. The hoof growth and horn quality has dramatically improved and now thankfully my job is easy!

I highly recommend the use of Coat and Hoof if a horse has poor quality hooves and also recommend seeking the advice from a qualified nutritionist. Their expertise can help to get the balance in the diet right for the animal. This helps the body to function more efficiently and I truly believe that these two factors have been the key to the success with this horse.

Thank you
