Case Study: Alfa-A Oil - Skin Problems
Maverick is a 5-year-old ID described by his owner Karen as having a heart of gold. Maverick is ridden at novice level dressage and is also shown in either maxi cob or ridden Irish Draught classes. Karen contacted the Dengie Feedline 0845 345 5115 as Maverick had a severe skin condition where he would rub himself against the stable walls until his skin bled.
Initially Maverick's skin condition was attributed to possible sweet itch, but following advice from her vet, Karen agreed to let Maverick be blood tested for allergies. When the results were through they showed Maverick was sensitive to a number of things including oats, barley, oak and nettles to name just a few which meant that both his feed and bedding had to be changed.
Suggested Ration
- Alfa-A Oil 500g (1 heaped large round scoop)
- Natural Vitality Leisure Vits & Mins 2 measures daily
Dengie Alfa-A Oil combines alfalfa with a GM free soya oil coating so is excellent for promoting show condition whilst being suitable for Maverick’s allergies. Alfalfa is a source of quality protein and in conjunction with exercise can help to promote a good ‘top-line’, whilst the naturally occurring vitamins and minerals in alfalfa also help to give a healthier coat, skin and hooves. Combined with the addition of soya oil which is a good source of the omega-6 essential fatty acids Alfa-A Oil is excellent for promoting show coat shine.
As Maverick is a good doer he can only have a small quantity of Alfa-A Oil, as it is very conditioning. A balanced diet should further help to create a nice shiny coat. This can be achieved without supplying additional calories by adding a broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement like Dengie Natural Vitality Leisure Vits & Mins to the ration.
Maverick has been on the Dengie diet for several months now and Karen is especially pleased, as she doesn’t even have to use any products on Maverick's coat to make it shine as a recent picture at a show demonstrates.
