Case Study: Casper III

Casper III is a 15.2hh, 18 year old Dutch Warmblood owned by Melissa Eagles who is an up-and-coming young show jumper based in North East Essex. Following success with another horse, Melissa started Casper on Dengie Healthy Hooves as she wanted to encourage good hoof growth due to a problem Casper had with pus in his foot. Although Casper generally holds weight very well, over the winter months he can lose a little condition so after contacting the Dengie Feedline for advice Melissa also added Dengie Alfa-Beet to the ration. In the summer months when Casper can be very laid back, it was also suggested that Dengie Naked Oats could be added to the ration in small quantities to promote more ‘sparkle’.

Casper’s ration

2.5kg or 5 large scoops of Healthy Hooves
500g of Alfa-Beet dry weight before soaking
Naked Oats literally by the handful

It wasn’t long after introducing Healthy Hooves that Melissa was starting to notice a difference in Casper’s hooves. Even Melissa’s farrier commented on the difference in hoof growth. The addition of Alfa-Beet over the winter months meant that Casper maintained his weight with ease. With the summer months upon us Melissa is introducing Naked Oats to the ration again and with his extra ‘sparkle’ and healthy hooves Casper is sure to dazzle everyone at competition!
