Case Study: Liz Mathieson and Woody
Woody is an 8 year-old, 11.3hh Welsh Section A described by his owner Liz as only ever thinking about his stomach! Liz is careful to watch Woody’s bodyweight including restricting grazing at certain times of the year, as she is concerned that Woody may be prone to laminitis due to his breed. Liz's daughters Katie and Jessica use Woody for lead rein showing and pony club activities. At the end of last year Liz contacted us for feeding advice and we thought Woody was an ideal candidate to trial our new Dengie product Healthy Hooves.
Suggested Ration
Dengie Healthy Hooves 1kg (2 large round scoops)
Dengie Healthy Hooves is a nutritionally complete, low calorie fibre feed for horses and ponies prone to laminitis. Healthy Hooves combines fibre sources that are all low in starch and sugars such as alfalfa in the form of chopped fibre and fibre that has been pelleted for added interest. When fed at the recommended quantity Dengie Healthy Hooves provides a balanced diet due to the inclusion of a broad-spectrum of vitamins and minerals, including biotin to promote healthy hoof horn so no additional vitamin and mineral supplementation is required. Dengie Healthy Hooves also has added garlic for great palatability.
Liz was pleased with the results of the Healthy Hooves trial and particularly liked the inclusion of pellets, which she felt made the product look really appetising. Woody seemed to agree and was described as really ‘tucking in’ to his feed. Liz has also noticed that Woody’s coat is really great despite the fact he suffers from sweet itch and even through the winter months when he was clipped she could still see it was really shiny. Healthy Hooves had a big thumbs up from Liz and she continues to feed it now the trial is over.
