Field Lick Breeding Case Study
Whippletree Stud are breeders of pure bred Arabs, pure and part bred Cleveland, Irish Draft and Sports Horses and have around 50 horses at their yard in Cheshire. Heather at Whippletree Stud says that they pride themselves on keeping their horses as naturally as possible and this includes keeping them at grass 365 days a year with ad-lib access to forage as necessary which helps to promote a steady growth rate and positive mental attitude.
As part of their managment regime the horses in the main herd don't have access to traditional concentrate feeds but instead all have ad-lib access to Dengie Field Licks which Heather says helps to keep them in good shiny condition and well covered. Not only are the Dengie Field Licks a convenient and economical way to feed a large number of horses, but the horses also really enjoy them as can be seen in the photo's of them tucking in above.
The Dengie Field Lick is a 20kg weatherproof feed block that allows individuals to top up on essential nutrients to balance a grass and forage diet. The Dengie Field Lick should be placed in suitable containers which are available from Dengie, to regulate the consumption. A Field Lick should last three horses sharing a paddock one week on average.
