Charlie's Profile

Charlie Pickman lives near Bristol and is 24 years old. He has ridden from an early age, competing in many Pony Club teams, most recently at the 2003 Pony Club Championships, where his team won the eventing competition – a suitable finale to his pony club days. Nowadays, Charlie is a Certified Equine Dentist and busy working towards his Advanced Certification – “it helps to fund my eventing habit” It is this eventing “habit” that Dengie is happy to be able to support.

Charlie currently has 5 horses to event;

Elstone Pauper (Meg) is a 12 year old (1996) 16.2hh bay mare. She is owned by Claire Shiel and is currently at Pre-Novice. She is a Thoroughbred by Bally Skip with Dam unknown.  Previously she was a rearer - now re-educated!  Charlie has ridden her since the summer of 2004 from Intro level.  Meg did her first full season at Advanced last year and at 3* level at Blenheim and Barbary Castle.   She has had an injury to her hock so this season she will be taken slowly to ensure she is back to full fitness.

Viking is a six year old (2002) 16.1hh bay gelding. He is owned by Charlie and Mrs Jenny Jackson.  He is out of Miabantos by Abantos and by Farmer.  He was purchased in August 2007 from Tim Warren with little competition experience.  Currently he is competing at Pre-Novice level, but ready to move up to Novice soon.  Viking will be aiming to move successfully to Novice level eventing this summer and to be competitive in six year old classes.  Alongside the eventing Charlie is hoping to qualify him for the Discovery 2nd round in BSJA competitions.

Wardento (Billy) is a five year old (2003) 16.2hh grey gelding owned soley by Charlie.  His dam was L.Zelusie 30 by Palfrenier and he is by Cardento.  He was purchased by Charlie in June 2007 from Tim Warren as an untried youngster with no competition experience.  He will start some unaffiliated competitions and affiliated eventing at the end of this season.

Mulgrave Josh (Josh) is 12 years old (1996) and a bay 16.1hh gelding.  He is owned by Mrs Jenny Jackson and is out of Mulgrave Storm and by Fire Rocket.  Charlie took over the ride in March 2007.  Previously he had been competed upto Intermediate level and is now aimed at a CCI** and if that goes well will try an Advanced track this year also.

Minotaur (Minnie) is also owned by Jenny Jackson and is a six year old (2002) 16.3hh coloured gelding.  His dam is Pauldarys Lady Addie and sire Pauldarys Ferro.  Charlie has been riding Minnie since 2007 and started to compete him in September at Pre-Novice level.  He is going to be aimed at Pre-Novice for the 2008 series to let him gain experience.
