Charlie's Profile

Charlie Pickman is currently based in Somerset, and is 27 years old. He has ridden from an early age competing in many Pony Club teams, most recently at the 2003 Pony Club Championships where his team won the eventing competition – a suitable finale to his pony club days. He has competed up to 3 star level, but has high hopes of completing a 4 star in the future. Charlie is also a Certified Equine Dentist – “it helps to fund my eventing habit” It is this eventing habit that Dengie is happy to be able to support.

Charlie currently has 2 horses to event;

Viking at Bath & West. Image by Horsepower PhotographyViking is a 7 year old (2002) 16.1hh bay gelding. He is owned by Charlie and Mrs Jennifer Jackson and is currently competing at Intermediate/2 star level. He is a Dutch horse out of Miabantos by Abantos and by Farmer. He was purchased in August 2007 from Tim Warren with little competition experience. He currently has 50 points, is on the World Class Equine Pathway, and is aiming for his first Advanced in the Spring 2010.

Wardento (Billy) is a 6 year old (2003)16.3hh grey gelding owned by Charlie and Mrs Jennifer Jackson and is currently competing at BE100. He is a Dutch horse out of L.Zelusie 30 by Palfrenier and is by Cardento. He was purchased in June 2007 from Tim Warren as a just backed youngster with no competition experience. He has had good placings at BE100 level and is now ready to move up to Novice in the Autumn 2009.

Charlie also has 1 horse which he plans to compete:

Midsummer Maiden (Summer) was born in June 2008 to Another Dazzler (TB) and is by Landtanzer (Holstein). She has been bred to event as her mother, an ex racehorse, was one of Charlie’s event horses reaching Advanced level in 2006. Summer’s sire is an advanced Dutch bred dressage horse, has a scopey jump, and has ‘Landgraf’ and ‘Concorde’ in his bloodlines. He has sired champions in Holland.

Summer, a few days old

Summer has the sweetest temperament, and has inherited the lovely floating paces of her father, and the speed of her mother. She jumped over the park rails at 3 months following her friend towards the apples so does have a bold jump in her. A few months later she left her companions to jump over a sizeable hunt jump to greet the new gelding next door - she obviously likes the boys like her mother! She is now 15 months old, just about 15hh, and (most of the time) is easy to handle. There is a feisty side to her though so we think she will be a challenge at times.
