How To Get The Most Out Of Feeding With Dengie Hi-Fi Senior

Hi-Fi Senior is ideal as a partial or complete forage replacer for horses that find chewing hay difficult. With an energy level comparable to very good quality hay, Hi-Fi Senior can improve the feed value of the ration, helping elderly animals to gain weight. Feed Hi-Fi Senior in large tub trugs when using as a forage replacer.

FAQs

Is Dengie Hi-Fi Senior a soft chaff?

Hi-Fi Senior is a short-chopped fibre feed and as such can be the next step when your horse can no longer manage to chew their usual long-stemmed forage. However, being a natural product there can be some texture variation in Hi-Fi Senior and for horses with very poor dentition they may struggle to chew even a short-chopped fibre feed. If this is the case then soaked forage replacers including Dengie Pure Grass Pellets and Alfa-Beet may be more suitable options.

How long will a bag of Dengie Hi-Fi Senior last if I’m using it as a total forage replacer?

This really depends on your horse’s bodyweight and how much they need to completely replace their forage ration. As an example, a 500kg horse would need a minimum of 8.5kg per day to meet their fibre requirements. Hi-Fi Senior comes in a 20kg bale, so each bale would last just over two days. More information on forage replacers can be found here but please contact our Nutrition Team for individual advice.

I have two elderly horses both of which love the Hi-Fi Senior (my younger horse also loves it). My 28yr old ex race horse finds it easy to chew and digest. Before using the Hi-Fi Senior he used to have loose droppings, he no longer has any issues and is in great health. Happy horses Happy owner

  2. Linda Purr

My senior pony with poor dentition has a full scoop with his alfabeet/grassnuts to slow him down a bit. He loves the alfabeet/grassnuts so much that he ‘scoffs’ (can’t think of a more apt word) but the Hi fi senior slows him up and he is quidding less with it added into the soaked mix.
