Peanut may be that annoying best friend who eats all the cakes and never gains a pound, but he does like to keep his owner Amy Roberts on her toes!
In the leadup to ODEs and stayaway international events, Peanut can be prone to dropping weight as he’s naturally a bit of a worrier, so Amy seeked out the help of Dengie Performance Horse Nutritionist, Claire Akers.

Five-year-old racehorse Red had one run before arriving in Richenda Ford’s care in 2020. He arrived in very poor condition, so Richenda decided to put him on an ‘ulcer friendly’ diet which was high in calories, fibre, and oil, but low in starch.

Dengie Performance Fibre is a blend of soft, highly digestible fibres with a high oil level. The soft and easy to chew fibres also make it an ideal feed for youngstock and the light molasses coating and added spearmint oil make it ideal for fussy horses.
Both the Alfa-A Oil and Performance Fibre offer higher calorie options to support weight and condition. Alfa-A Oil is the highest calorie feed within the Dengie range and simply combines alfalfa and added rapeseed oil, with no molasses. This means the sugar content is low at just 4.5%. The Performance Fibre provides a similar calorie content at 12 MJ/kg but also includes a light molasses coating and added spearmint oil, making it a great choice to tempt fussier feeders. It also contains some dried grass as part of the formulation which has a natural sweetness, further helping to aid palatability. Both feeds carry the BETA Feed Approval Mark for horses prone to gastric ulcers.
